Memorial Butterfly Release
Honoring the memory of a loved one with a live butterfly release is a meaningful and gentle way to say goodbye. For more than 20 years, Butterfly Release Company® has helped families create this special moment. We are a family-run butterfly farm that raises healthy, disease-free Painted Lady butterflies and ships only to regions where the species is native — so the release also supports the local environment.
What Our Memorial Packages Include
Every memorial package arrives ready for your guests to participate:
- Individually folded origami release envelopes
- Personalized with a short imprint and your choice of envelope color
- The option to add a mass-release Decorator Box if you prefer a single group release
Guests can each release a butterfly, or the family can release them together from a Decorator Box. Both options create a peaceful and memorable tribute.
Mass Release Decorator Box Option
Prefer a single, peaceful group release instead of individual envelopes? Add our Decorator Box.
You choose the flower style and ribbon color so the box feels appropriate for the occasion. At the right moment, the family can simply untie the ribbons together and release the butterflies as one gentle cloud.
You can also combine both options — some butterflies in individual envelopes for guests and the rest in a Decorator Box for a shared release. Just note your preference in the comments box at checkout.
Shipping & Release Guidelines
- Releases should take place during daylight hours when temperatures are above 70°F.
- Butterflies ship via UPS Next Day Air and arrive the day before your chosen release date in most cases.
- Monday releases can arrive Saturday (to order, use the Sunday Day and Date on the order form;
- Last-minute orders are welcome — please call us for availability if your event is less than 72 hours away.
Shipping is additional to the package price.
UPS Next Day Air rates:
Florida: $40
Eastern states: $50
Western states (AZ, CA, CO, ID, MT, ND, NM, NV, SD, OR, UT, WA, WY):
Saturday delivery (for a Sunday release) is an extra $15. Shipping is calculated and added at checkout. Most packages arrive before noon the day before your release date. You will receive a tracking number and delivery commitment time by email when your order ships.
